In the industrial park of Dianbu Town, Laixi City, Qingdao, a company named Qingdao Dashun Jingfeng Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. is quietly transforming the traditional way of vegetable seeding. From a small agricultural machinery shop owner to being featured on CCTV's "I Love Invention" program, from developing a failed prototype to exporting products to Canada and Russia, founder Zheng Jiangshan has spent over a decade writing an entrepreneurial story of a "farmer inventor."
In 2009, 25-year-old Zheng Jiangshan opened a small agricultural machinery store in Dianbu Town. At that time, local carrot cultivation had begun to take shape, but seeding relied entirely on manual work, which not only consumed a great deal of labor but also resulted in high costs due to seed waste. "I wondered if I could use machines to replace manual labor, save costs, and increase profits," Zheng recalled.
The path of research and development was not smooth. He attempted to develop a small gasoline-powered air-suction carrot seeder based on foreign planting machinery, but encountered an unexpected problem – carrot seeds are covered with tiny barbs that allow air to escape, making it impossible for the seeds to be adsorbed onto the seeding plate. Just when he was at a loss, inspiration came from his friend Zhang Lianhua's seed pelletizing technology. By pelletizing the seeds, carrot seeds were transformed into uniformly round particles, finally enabling precision seeding through air-suction technology.
In 2014, Zheng Jiangshan formally established the company, focusing on the research, development, and manufacturing of planting machinery. Today, the company produces over 1,000 units of various machinery annually, with 90% sold outside Shandong Province, and some products exported to countries such as Canada and Russia.
In November 2023, the Qingdao Facility Agriculture Full Mechanization On-Site Observation Conference was held at the Maozhichang Modern Facility Agriculture Industrial Park in Laixi City, where Dashun Jingfeng's rotary tillage, ridging, drip irrigation, and air-suction vegetable seeder became the center of attention. As the machine passed through the field, operations such as soil tilling, ridge forming, drip tape laying, and seeding were completed in one seamless process, drawing admiration from the farmers watching. Company staff introduced that this type of air-suction vegetable seeder integrates multiple functions including rotary tillage, ridging, drip irrigation, fertilization, air-suction seeding, and film mulching, achieving an operational efficiency of over 30 mu per day, replacing at least 30 laborers, and saving at least 500 yuan per mu in costs while increasing efficiency. Meanwhile, at the National Bulk Vegetable Industry Technology System Vegetable Mechanization Application On-Site Observation Seminar held in Laiyang, Yantai, the company's after-sales service manager Cui Mingzhu also demonstrated the outstanding performance of the air-suction vegetable seeder, earning unanimous recognition from attending experts.
With its strong technology and product quality, Dashun Jingfeng's air-suction seeder has not only gained favor in the domestic market but has also successfully opened doors to international markets. Currently, the company's products are exported to multiple countries and regions including Canada, Russia, the United States, Australia, and Senegal. The "Made in China" quality, originating from Laixi and reaching the world, is gaining increasing recognition from overseas customers.
The company's development has also been supported by academic research institutions. In November 2024, Guo Shangjing, Vice President of Qingdao Agricultural University, led a delegation to visit Dashun Jingfeng for exchanges. Company founder Zheng Jiangshan reflected on the collaboration with Professor Wang Fangyan's team from the College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering: "With the support of the university's expert team, our company has advanced to the forefront of China's agricultural machinery industry, achieving fruitful results in the field of small-seed vegetable seeding technology and equipment development."
Looking to the future, Zheng Jiangshan is full of confidence in the company's development: "In addition to manufacturing planting machinery, we are also developing harvesting equipment. The carrot harvester will be delivered to farmers for use by the end of this year." From a rural inventor to an industry leader, from the fields to the international market, Dashun Jingfeng is writing a new chapter for Chinese agricultural machinery with a spirit of dedication and hard work.
